Ashburn get new garbage collection company

Ashburn is getting a new garbage collection company starting July 1.

The City Council intended to vote on the new contract at the June meeting. Mayor Pro Tem said the Council should not vote on the new contract because it had some changes the Council needed to review.

Councilman Jonathan Perry then withdrew his motion to approve the contract.

This is the second company the City has hired since the collection contract with the Crisp Solid Waste Authority ended. The first company was Golden Environmental.

The City ended that contract because Golden was not collecting yard debris according to the contract terms. The Council said weekly trash collection was excellent.

Leaving limbs and clippings beside the road for weeks at the time was more the Council and residents would accept.

Company owner Richard Golden met with the Council to discuss the problem. He was not able to satisfy the Council.
