About those UTVs
Let them on the road
The Ashburn Council’s decision to let vehicles bigger than golf carts on City roads is the right decision.
If these devices fit the requirements in place for golf carts, they should be allowed.
Not allowing them because a side-by-side weighs more than a golf cart and can hit speeds of 50 MPH is, well, hypocritical.
Every passenger vehicle on the road today weighs a few tons. Every passenger vehicle on the road today can hit 70 MPH.
Motorcycles weigh less than a golf cart. Some big ones may weigh as much as a golf cart. All of them can hit speeds well above the posted limit on City streets.
What is the real difference here? If the driver breaks the law and gets caught, the driver gets a ticket. Good enough. If the SXS has proper brakes, lights, the driver is licensed and etc, the only difference is the appearance.
Judging something – and someone – based on looks is simply wrong.
Let the rules of the road apply to all, equally.
