County budget calls for a tax hike

On a 3-1 vote, the County Commission approved a budget that calls for a 3 mil tax hike.

Commission Nick Denham offered a motion to accept Budget Option 2. That called for the tax hike. Allen Weaver gave the second. Brad Calhoun voted yes. Commission Chair Dana Whiddon voted no. Joe Burgess was not at the meeting.

The approved budget is $11,726,200. The millage will be set officially later this year once the digest approved. (See story at right.)

Ms. Whiddon said Option 2 cuts about $1 million from requested funding from the various County-funded departments.

“I personally think there was more we could have done,” she said.
