More Ga Power rate reduction news

Good Morning Community Partners!

The Georgia Public Service Commission approved a plan on May 28, 2026, that will lower overall rates for the average retail customer beginning in June.

A typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will save nearly $50 per year, or about $4 per month. Total annual savings for all Georgia Power customers will amount to approximately $285 million. Customer-specific impacts will depend on your individual rate and energy use.

The Commission vote finalized a stipulated agreement between Georgia Power and the Public Interest Advocacy staff in the Fuel Cost Recovery and Storm Cost Recovery cases filed in February.

The cases were filed to recover the cost of fuel to operate power generation plants to serve customers and to recover costs to restore electric service following storms of all sizes, notably Hurricane Helene in 2024.

The plan approved continues our longstanding focus on affordability for our customers, including a freeze on base rates through 2028 and a plan to provide approximately $102 in annual savings to the typical residential customer beginning in 2029. Since 1990, the company has offered rates averaging 15 percent below the national average.

We’re excited about these savings and how they may benefit you. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
