WHAT: The Georgia Historical Society will dedicate a new historical marker recognizing Dr. John Henry Jordan (1870–1912), a pioneering African-American physician and community leader in Coweta County. WHEN: Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. WHERE: At the site of Dr. Jordan’s hospital, 59 Pinson Street, Newnan, Georgia, 30263. Street parking is available but limited. Additional parking will be available at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 54 Pinson Street. WHY: Dr. John Henry Jordan was a pioneering African-American physician who established Coweta County’s first known private hospital for Black patients during the era of segregation, providing critical medical care to his community. The marker will stand at the site of his hospital on Pinson Street, recognizing his contributions to public health and his enduring impact on African-American healthcare in Georgia. |
